KUALA LUMPUR: The unity government will continue to push for reforms and uphold good governance, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister, in a post on his official Facebook page, said the unity government will continue to correct wrongs that had resulted from irresponsible use of power and abuse of trust.

“I acknowledge that the nation’s journey to eradicate corruption is still a long one, as the issue has become systemic and deeply rooted at all levels.

“This effort still has a long way to go before we can succeed in fighting systemic corruption that has spread to all levels,” he said in his post on Sunday (Oct 27) night.

Anwar said since forming the Madani government, the Federal Government has prioritised improving governance, emphasising that being appointed as prime minister or minister is not an opportunity to gather wealth for oneself or one’s family.

“I will not stop reiterating this reminder, even though there are parties, particularly in the opposition, who become agitated and irritated every time they hear the word ‘governance’.

He said the unity government had brought about political stability that enabled the government to set clear policies on industry, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, green technology, and semiconductors.

“It is now our duty (the Cabinet) to communicate these policies to the public,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anwar, who is PKR president, said during the Perak PKR Convention on Sunday (Oct 27), he reminded party members not to lose themselves in power.

“Many of our friends who prevailed in the party’s struggle, sacrificing and battling hardship even enduring prison or life on the streets, have stumbled once they reached positions of power.

“I want to remind my brothers and sisters that the foundation of our mission is to correct wrongs.

“Power is a responsibility and a trust that should be carried out with sincerity and honesty,” he said.
