In Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need for the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to work with other agencies in distributing zakat aid to ensure the funds are reaching those who are genuinely in need.
Anwar highlighted that without proper coordination, some families may receive help multiple times while others receive no assistance at all, stressing the importance of coordination to prevent such disparities.
He further stated, “One of MAIWP’s tasks is to coordinate with other agencies, otherwise one family will get four times (of aid), and another family will not receive any assistance at all… hence, I hope this will be managed properly.”
During the 2024 MAIWP Carnival at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Anwar stated, “The minister, deputy minister and chairman, their jobs are not just to continue these activities but to ensure that every cent from the people returns to the people and cannot be used for a personal matter.”
Additionally, Anwar called for MAIWP to adhere to good governance practices and eliminate unnecessary expenses to establish the agency as a symbol of ummah pride.
Updates on the situation are expected to be provided in the future.
