The Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2023 (APCW 2023) in Johor, the first in the area, has wrapped up after five days of discussions with over 3,800 global participants. During the closing event, Lee Ting Han, Johor’s investment, trade, and consumer affairs committee chairman, mentioned that representatives from 108 countries took part in more than 200 sessions from Nov 13 to 17.
Lee detailed that the discussions centered around the four tracks of APCW 2023: energy systems and industry, cities, urban and rural settlements, infrastructure and transport, land, ocean, food and water, as well as societies, health, livelihoods and economies. He also highlighted that the event delved into the complexities of climate change, explored innovative solutions, and formed partnerships that will impact the collective response to climate change.
Additionally, Lee emphasized the importance of APCW 2023 for Johor and highlighted the Johor Green Deal, an environmental sustainability framework. He also mentioned the Johor Sustainability Centre, which will act as a hub for knowledge sharing and developing sustainable solutions, ensuring that the conversation on climate action continues beyond APCW 2023.
The five-day event featured technical papers, symposiums, networking, tours, regional and global cooperation, investment discussions, and talks on the economic and social impact of climate change. The conference marked the end of this year’s series of regional climate weeks.
Following APCW 2023, the first global stocktake will be concluded at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, in December.
