SHAH ALAM: Caretaker Kedah mentri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been called upon by the Selangor Royal Council to apologize for his derogatory comments about Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. In response, five council members lodged reports at the Section 6 police station in Shah Alam on Friday (July 14). This action was taken to facilitate police investigations into Sanusi’s remarks made during a Perikatan Nasional ceramah. Representing the council, Datuk Emran Kadir emphasized the importance of these reports in holding Muhammad Sanusi accountable for his statements.
Accompanying Emran were Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, Tan Sri Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa, and Datuk Kusrin Munawi. It should be noted that this move by the council is a response to Muhammad Sanusi’s inappropriate commentary questioning the Sultan’s appointment of the Selangor mentri besar. Emran described this as an insult towards the Sultan and expressed their concern regarding Muhammad Sanusi’s tendency to infringe on the Royal Institutions of other states.
Emran stressed that while they generally overlook Muhammad Sanusi’s remarks, it is unacceptable for him to openly criticize the Sultan during a ceramah. Thus, Emran urged Muhammad Sanusi to publicly apologize for his offensive statements. He reiterated that the Sultan has the prerogative to appoint a mentri besar of his choice, and in this case, the Sultan rightfully selected someone from the political party that obtained the highest number of votes.
The Selangor Royal Council’s response reflects their commitment to safeguarding the dignity and reputation of the Sultan and the Royal Institutions.
