Apple’s much-rumoured car may not be available until 2028, according to reports. Initially intended to be fully autonomous, the vehicle is now expected to be only partly autonomous and targeted at the luxury market.

For years, speculation has surrounded Apple’s potential foray into electric vehicle development, commonly known as “Project Titan”. However, the company has yet to confirm or deny the existence of the project, maintaining its well-known culture of secrecy.

The original goal for Project Titan was to create a self-driving electric car. Despite this, the project remains in the early stages of development, with no prototype or visual representation released thus far.

Bloomberg reports that the expected launch date for the Apple car is pushed back to 2028 at the earliest. Apple appears to have adjusted its vision to focus on a vehicle equipped with a system similar to Tesla’s Autopilot, allowing for autonomous driving while ensuring the driver remains alert and ready to take control at any time.

In addition, Apple is reportedly seeking partners for manufacturing. If the Apple car does come to fruition, it is likely to be priced at approximately US$100,000, placing it in the high-end market.

In contrast, Sony has already partnered with Honda to develop the Afeela, the first model from the newly formed Sony Honda Mobility. This model, presented at CES, illustrates the collaboration between Honda’s mechanical expertise and Sony’s software and entertainment platforms. The Sony Honda Mobility is scheduled for release in 2026.
