(Reuters) – Long distance runner Joasia Zakrzewski has been suspended for 12 months by a UK athletics disciplinary body after being found to have used a car during a 50-mile race in April and accepting third place. Data from the tracking system at the GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool revealed that Zakrzewski, a marathon runner who represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, used a car for a 4km stretch of the race.

The 47-year-old was removed from the third place and claimed that she had informed race officials about the situation and finished the race “in a non-competitive way”. However, the Independent Disciplinary Panel of UK Athletics disagreed with her in their verdict.

“The claimant had collected the trophy at the end of the race, something which she should have not done if she was completing the race on a non-competitive basis,” they said. “She also did not seek to return the trophy in the week following the race.”

Zakrzewski’s actions have resulted in her being suspended for a year by the disciplinary body. Her behavior has attracted negative attention due to her dishonesty and failure to return the trophy, which further demonstrates her lack of integrity in the matter.

This incident reflects poorly on Zakrzewski as a professional athlete, undermining her credibility and reputation. Her actions have led to disciplinary action and negative publicity, which will likely have significant impact on her career and standing within the athletic community.

The incident has raised questions about Zakrzewski’s integrity and sportsmanship, casting doubt on her past performances and achievements. The fallout from this scandal may have far-reaching consequences for her career and future prospects in the world of athletics.

Zakrzewski’s suspension has caused a stir in the athletic community, bringing attention to issues of honesty and fair play. The case serves as a cautionary tale for other athletes, highlighting the importance of integrity and adherence to the rules of competition.

The disciplinary action against Zakrzewski underscores the seriousness of her actions and the impact they can have on the sport. It sends a clear message that dishonesty and cheating will not be tolerated in the world of athletics, and that those who engage in such behavior will face significant consequences.

Overall, Zakrzewski’s suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of fair play and honesty in sports, and the consequences that can result from violating these principles.
