In the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, a dozen individuals were killed during an attack at a holiday party, as stated by Mexican authorities on Sunday.
Local media reported that the attack occurred in the town of Salvatierra at dawn, with an armed group opening fire on partygoers participating in a posada, a traditional Mexican celebration held in the days leading up to Christmas.
The state’s attorney general office confirmed that 12 people had been killed but did not provide further details.
In recent years, Guanajuato, which is home to a considerable number of automotive and aeronautics factories, has become one of the most violent states in the country due to clashes between powerful drug trafficking groups.
