PETALING JAYA: Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen has pulled out of the men’s singles event at the Indian Open, which kicks off in New Delhi on Tuesday (Jan 16).
The world No. 1, who made it to the semi-finals of the recently concluded Malaysian Open before succumbing to a 12-21, 21-19, 17-21 defeat to China’s Shi Yuqi, is due to undergo tests for an injury.
“After my match on Saturday (Jan 13), I’ve been lying in bed.
“After talking to the medical team in Malaysia, I’ve been advised to get (a further) check-up,” he said in a social media post Monday (Jan 15).
“That means that I unfortunately won’t be able to travel and be present at the Indian Open this year which is rather disappointing as it has been a tournament where I’ve loved to play in front of the Indian badminton fans.”
