KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has stated that Perikatan Nasional has the potential to secure 35 out of the 56 seats in the Selangor state polls, which will take place on August 12.
Azmin, who is set to lead the campaign in the state and is rumored to be running in Hulu Kelang, emphasized that their primary focus will be on addressing economic issues and the cost of living.
“We are confident that we will be able to secure between 33 and 35 seats, not only in the Malay majority areas, but we are also working hard to make inroads in certain non-Malay majority seats,” he stated during a talk at the Concorde Club forum held on Tuesday (July 25) in Kuala Lumpur.
The Concorde Club, led by Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, is an informal group of editors and senior journalists that regularly engages with politicians and key policymakers.
Previous guests of the Concorde Club include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Anthony Loke, and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
In addition, Azmin dismissed concerns about the “green wave” associated with Perikatan, asserting that it is a scare tactic to associate the coalition with Islamization.
“As we have mentioned before, this is a tactic employed by certain individuals and groups to intimidate voters, especially non-Malays, against supporting Perikatan.
“It is unfair and unwarranted for certain political leaders to make such remarks against us.
“Our policies are committed to representing and benefiting all Malaysians,” he affirmed.
