In four states under Group A, including Johor, the 2024-2025 school year has begun for more than 1.44 million students, ranging from pre-school to Form Six. Specifically, 602,619 students in Johor started their school session on Sunday (March 10). Group A consists of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, while Group B includes Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, and the three Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
On Monday (March 11), the 2024-2025 academic year will begin for Group B states, bringing the total number of students nationwide to around five million. The first week of the academic year will not include classes but will involve engagement activities to introduce students to the school environment and culture, allowing them to build friendships and familiarize themselves with their teachers.
This initiative aims to make attending school more engaging for students,” said Education director-general Azman Adnan following a visit to SMK Sultan Ismail in Johor with Johor education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin on Sunday.
Students at the school eagerly arrived as early as 6.30am in anticipation of the new school year, where teachers and “Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya” (peer mentors) greeted them with apples and stationery as a motivational gesture.
