PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are outraged at the decision to scrap badminton from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year, with some saying the country should quit the games altogether.
“Just withdraw from the games,” said PeiYee Soo on Facebook.
“Because they can’t possibly win like in their glory days, they scrapped it, that’s one jolly move,” said Boonan Haeriwan.
“Better we withdraw from the tournament, Malaysia, India, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong among the top countries in this sport,” said New Rjuna.
“Best is just cancel the games. It is (a) reminder to those in Asia and Africa of their atrocities during British colonial times,” said Ck Wong.
“Useless games meet nowadays… tailored to suit some…might as well boycott,” said Daniel M Tan.
“Just don’t send any athletes lol…save money,” said Ameikh Hamzah.
It was reported earlier that Malaysia could be struggling to win medals at the games after the decision taken by the host country to drop badminton, squash, hockey and diving.
Badminton contributed to two out of the seven gold medals won in the last Commonwealth Games.
