    Badminton: Zii Jia, Aaron-Wooi Yik storm into Denmark Open final

    Malaysian shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have advanced to the finals of the men’s singles and doubles events, respectively, in the Denmark Open. Zii Jia, currently ranked 11th in the world, continued his impressive performance by defeating Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong, ranked 18th, with a score of 21-15, 21-17 in the semi-final match held at Jyske Bank Arena in Odense on Saturday, October 21. It marks Zii Jia’s second consecutive final appearance in the tournament, having finished as the runner-up in the previous edition. Last week, he secured the title in the Arctic Open as well.

    In the final, Zii Jia will face Weng Hongyang, the Australian Open champion, who surprised everyone by defeating China’s Shi Yuqi, ranked 4th in the world, with a score of 21-19, 21-14. Meanwhile, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, ranked 4th in the world, displayed great determination in their semi-final match against the Danish duo Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, ranked 6th. Despite losing the first game, Aaron and Wooi Yik made a strong comeback and won the match with a score of 16-21, 21-15, 21-15.

    This will be Aaron and Wooi Yik’s fourth final appearance this year, after finishing as runners-up in the Opens held in India, Indonesia, and China. In the final of the Denmark Open, they will be up against Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana from Indonesia, who are the 2022 All-England champions and ranked 14th in the world. Shohibul and Bagas defeated their compatriots Fajar Alfian and Rian Ardianto, currently ranked 2nd in the world and the defending champions, with a score of 21-11, 16-21, 21-12.
