KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) has announced the appointment of Badrul Hisham Alias as its new director-general, effective February 28. Badrul Hisham previously served as the secretary of the Home Ministry Registration and Organisation Division. He takes over from Zamri Misman, who has been transferred to the Legal Affairs Division in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Badrul Hisham, 52, has been in public service for 27 years, starting out as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) in 1997. He has previously held positions in the NRD, including director of the Finance and Development Division and director of the Identification Card Division from 2015 to 2022. He then moved to the Home Ministry as the Registration and Organisation Division secretary on July 18, 2022.

In addition to Badrul Hisham’s appointment, the NRD also announced the appointment of Sarinah Apisah as the deputy director-general (Operations) on February 26. Sarinah takes over from Saiful Yazan Alwi, who has been reassigned to the Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA) under the Home Ministry.

In a statement, the NRD expressed its gratitude to Zamri Misman and Saiful Yazan for their contributions and service to the department. The NRD leadership is confident in the abilities of Badrul Hisham and Sarinah to lead the department effectively and continue its important work in registering and managing citizen information.

This leadership change comes at a crucial time for the NRD, as the department plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of national registration records. The NRD is responsible for issuing identification documents, such as birth certificates and identity cards, to Malaysian citizens.

With Badrul Hisham and Sarinah at the helm, the NRD is expected to continue its efforts to modernize its processes and improve services for citizens. Their experience in public service and familiarity with the inner workings of the department will be valuable assets in leading the NRD into the future.

The Home Ministry and the NRD are essential components of the Malaysian government’s administrative machinery, working together to uphold the legal and regulatory framework that governs national registration and identification processes. The appointment of Badrul Hisham and Sarinah reflects a commitment to ensuring the efficient and effective operation of these vital government agencies.

As the new director-general of the NRD, Badrul Hisham will oversee a wide range of responsibilities, including the management of registration databases, the issuance of identification documents, and the implementation of policies related to national registration. His leadership will be instrumental in guiding the department through its mandate to serve the Malaysian public.

Overall, the appointment of Badrul Hisham and Sarinah signifies a new chapter for the NRD, with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and service excellence. Their leadership will be crucial in shaping the future direction of the department and ensuring that it continues to meet the needs of Malaysian citizens in the years to come.
