PETALING JAYA: Indonesian Mulyo Handoyo and Denmark’s Kenneth Jonassen are among the candidates being considered to lead the national badminton singles squad.
Mulyo guided Taufik Hidayat to the 2004 Olympic gold in the men’s singles and also coached India’s K. Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy in 2017.

Kenneth has been the head coach for the Danish national team for the past 11 years and but is set to leave his position at the end of this year.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are looking to replace long-time men’s singles coaches Hendrawan and Datuk Tey Bock.
Hendrawan is set to leave the national body at the end of this month after 15 years while Seu Bock has been moved to the junior team.
“We are considering Kenneth Jonassen and Mulyo as well as other candidates to lead the singles team,” said national coaching director Rexy Mainaky after overseeing a training session at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Friday (Oct 4).

“We want to get the coach in as soon as possible but it also depends on when the (selected candidate) will be available,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rexy said they have decided on the coach to lead the women’s doubles team but could not reveal the name yet.
“We have made a decision and we hope the coach can join next month or latest in December.
“We can’t reveal the name yet based on an agreement with the coach,” he added.
