KUALA LUMPUR: The full report on the Batang Kali landslide tragedy is awaiting input from the Selangor state government before being made public, according to Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic).
As the Works Minister, Linggi stated that his ministry is currently waiting for the Selangor state government to provide their input before presenting the report to the Cabinet.
Due to the recent formation of the new state government, Linggi acknowledged that this process might take some time.
“We’re still waiting for the state government. It just formed a new government, let’s wait.
“After that, we will bring this matter to the Cabinet. It will be done as soon as possible,” Linggi informed reporters during the launch of the Board of Engineers Malaysia Convention 2023 in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Aug 22).
Linggi added that he is unable to disclose further details regarding the report until it has been presented to the Cabinet.
“Let’s wait first. I can’t share anything until I present the report to the Cabinet,” he explained.
In January, the preliminary report of the Batang Kali landslide incident was presented to the Cabinet by the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Following this, on July 11, Linggi announced that the Public Works Department, responsible for the investigation, has completed their part of the probe.
The Batang Kali landslide, which occurred at the Father’s Organic Farm in Jalan Genting, resulted in the tragic loss of 18 adults and 13 children, with 61 individuals managing to survive.
