(Reuters) – The Belarusian Defence Ministry announced on Tuesday the commencement of exercises to assess the combat readiness of its armed forces.
“The military units will promptly move to the designated areas and subsequently demonstrate their adherence to standard combat training procedures,” stated the ministry. The conclusion of the exercises was not specified.
The manoeuvres are set to occur in the Minsk and Vitebsk regions and will involve the deployment of military equipment and aircraft.
Periodically, military drills in Belarus raise concerns regarding security in Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic states, especially given that Russia used Belarus as a launchpad for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
While Minsk denies harboring any aggressive intentions towards its neighbors, it has cautioned that any incursion into Belarusian territory will be met with a response.
