TAPAH: Villagers in Kampung Poh have taken matters into their own hands by initiating community patrols following a detainee breakout from the Bidor Immigration depot. Norfaizal Marzuki, 36, and his friends have started patrolling the area due to concerns that escapees could be hiding in their village. He expressed his worries about the safety of the residents, particularly the elderly people living alone and children in the village. As a result, the young people of the village have taken up the responsibility to ensure the safety of the community, especially since many of them are self-employed and can take turns patrolling, as reported by Bernama on Sunday (Feb 4).
Another villager, Mohamad Ikhsan Shahrol, 31, mentioned that the patrols are being carried out in groups as a sense of responsibility to help the authorities. He also expressed concerns about the detainees acting recklessly after being in the jungle for four days, expressing worries that they may be starving. Some of the elderly in Kampung Poh have gone to stay with their children to ensure their safety. As of now, 51 of the escapees have been recaptured and 89 are still at large. The detainees had escaped from the men’s block of the depot on Thursday (Feb 1), with one of them dying in a road accident. – Bernama
