KOTA BARU: The teacher at a school in Kelantan who allegedly bit a pupil is still on duty, despite the incident. According to Mohd Hassany Hashim, the deputy director of the Kelantan Education Department (JPN), the case has been handed over to the Education Ministry (MoE) for further investigation. The department has cooperated fully with the MoE, providing reports promptly when the incident went viral on social media. “The state education department will await instructions from the MoE until the investigation is complete. We cannot comment further to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing investigation,” said Hashim during the STPM 2022 result announcement ceremony, which took place at SK Padang Bandit (1) on July 13.

During the ceremony, Hashim addressed a viral social media post shared by a mother, who claimed her six-year-old son was traumatized and refused to attend school because a teacher had been biting him on the lips. The woman alleged that her son was not the only victim, as other pupils had also been bitten on their mouths, hands, noses, and ears by the same teacher.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek called for patience from all parties involved, urging them to give space to the authorities and the Kelantan Education Department to conduct a thorough investigation. Sidek emphasized the importance of following proper channels and processes in the investigation. The ministry will await the results of the probe before taking any further actions. – Bernama
