KOTA KINABALU: On Wednesday (Nov 15), the body of a 61-year-old woman, who had been reported missing by her family earlier in the day, was discovered floating at Likas Bay.
Authorities retrieved the victim’s body from the sea after a child, who was at the beach with family, spotted her in the waters.
The witness stated that the child initially thought it was a mannequin, but upon realizing it was an unconscious woman floating, the police were called and arrived around 3.32pm.
The deceased is believed to be connected to the missing person case reported at Luyang police station earlier in the day. The son had noticed the mother’s disappearance from their house at 6.30am.
At 1.30pm, the victim’s son found her car parked along the side of the road at Likas Bay, as well as a towel identified as hers on a rock near the beach.
Investigations at the scene revealed no criminal elements related to the death, and the case has been classified as sudden death by KK Acting OCPD Superintendent Kalsom Idris.
