In Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastal area, two more bodies have been found as a result of floods caused by heavy rains, raising the death toll to four, according to Bulgarian News Agency BTA.
The bodies discovered in a submerged car that was swept away from a bridge into the sea due to the overflowing river include those of a local judge, her daughter (a veterinarian), and another man, stated regional police chief Emil Pavlov during a press conference in Tsarevo.
The fourth victim was a man who was also swept away while attempting to cross the same bridge on foot, Pavlov added.
The identities of the bodies recovered on Wednesday have not yet been confirmed.
A state of emergency was declared in Tsarevo municipality on Tuesday.
In the nearby Black Sea tourist resort on Arapya beach, torrential rain and strong winds caused cars and caravans to be washed away.
“It poured rain with a headwind for about 20 hours continuously, causing the river to overflow and resulting in this damage. The cars and car trailers were swept into the sea,” said local resident Doctor Plamen Petrov in an interview with Reuters TV.
