The candidate representing Perikatan Nasional in the Kinrara state constituency, Wong Yong Kang, has a strong understanding of local issues and affairs as he has lived and worked in Puchong for over 20 years. Wong, who is 49 years old, runs a packaging and machinery trading business for the food and beverage industry in Taman Kinrara. He currently resides in Bandar Kinrara, having previously lived in Pusat Bandar Puchong.
During his campaign rounds in Jalan Merak, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Wong spoke to residents who expressed concerns about illegal rubbish dumping, inadequate rubbish collection, abandoned cars, and blocked drains. Wong, who is familiar with the workings of the Subang Jaya City Council, strives to relay these complaints to the relevant authorities.
Given the limitations in resources and funding, Wong acknowledges the challenges faced by new candidates like himself in state elections. He is relying on private funding and personal supporters to finance his campaign and has been introducing himself as “Ah Kang” to make it easier for people to remember his name.
Having had 15 years of political experience, Wong held various positions within his former party, MCA, in his hometown of Melaka. He believes that it is time for new political leadership in Kinrara and Selangor.
Wong is preparing to launch his manifesto for Kinrara next week and aims to address several key issues if elected. Residents have expressed the need for a mid-sized government hospital with approximately 70 beds in Bandar Kinrara 5 to alleviate the strain on the distant and crowded Hospital Serdang. Job creation and stable incomes are also crucial for the B40 group, while the M40 group requires more affordable housing and infrastructure improvements. Additionally, the aging drainage system in Taman Kinrara 1 and Taman Kinrara 2 needs upgrading to address flooding concerns.
To tackle traffic congestion in Puchong, Wong suggests implementing flexible work hours for government and private sector employees to avoid peak hours and reduce congestion. Recognizing the impossibility of personally meeting all 123,782 registered voters in Kinrara within the two-week campaign period, Wong’s strategy focuses on targeting specific voter groups and engaging with residents through Residents’ Associations or Joint Management Bodies.
Wong will be contesting the Kinrara state seat against the incumbent assemblyman Ng Sze Han from PH-DAP.
