KUALA LUMPUR: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued a reminder to the public, emphasizing the need to obtain authorization before flying drones in areas of mass gatherings during the forthcoming state elections in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 26), CAAM highlighted that this prohibition is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of the polls and preventing any potential incidents that may compromise public safety and security.
“This prohibition will be in effect on the three key dates set by the Election Commission, namely nominations on Saturday (July 29), early voting on Aug 8, and polling on Aug 12. It will also apply throughout the 14-day campaign period following the nominations,” stated the official statement.
CAAM also emphasized that all flying activities, including the operation of drones, which pose a threat to the public or public property, are strictly regulated under Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969; as well as Regulations 98, 140-144 of the Civil Aviation of Malaysia Regulations and Civil Aviation Directives (CADs). – Bernama
