LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — A new study published on Wednesday reveals that cancers among younger Americans under 50 years of age are on the rise, with gastrointestinal cancers showing the fastest rates of increase.
The study, which focused on 562,145 individuals diagnosed with early-onset cancer in the United States between 2010 and 2019, found a significant increase in the incidence rates of early-onset cancers throughout this period.
While breast cancer accounted for the highest number of incident cases, the study published in JAMA Network Open highlighted that gastrointestinal cancers had the highest rates of increase among all early-onset cancers.
The study suggests that these findings could be valuable in shaping surveillance strategies and funding priorities for tackling early-onset cancer.
