KUALA LUMPUR: According to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, national athletes who achieve success at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be rewarded with a foreign-made car. The event is scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
The Road To Gold (RTG) committee has received an offer from a car company that wishes to reward athletes who reach the podium at the games. Yeoh expressed her hope that local companies, including government-linked companies (GLCs), will come forward to provide similar incentives to athletes who bring honor to the country in Paris.
She also emphasized the importance of allowing local brands the opportunity to reward Olympic medalists, as currently only a foreign brand has made an offer. Yeoh urged interested local companies to reach out to RTG coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam following the committee meeting held on Thursday.
According to the National Sports Council incentive scheme (SHAKAM), gold medal winners at the Olympics and Paralympics will receive RM1 million, silver medalists will be awarded RM300,000, and bronze medalists will receive RM100,000. – Bernama
