KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with Mid-Autumn celebrations, Cheras LeisureMall has successfully broken the Malaysia Book of Records for “Most Hand-Painted Lanterns by Children” with a total of 1,542 hand-painted lanterns made by children from 14 primary schools.

As an integral part of Mid-Autumn Festival, the lanterns embody the festival’s theme of reunion, hope and cultural heritage in line with Cheras LeisureMall’s theme “Moonlit Joys”.

The mall’s décor showcases the children’s lanterns, each crafted with imagination and joy – adding a whimsical touch to the mall’s annual celebrations.

The children’s lanterns will be displayed for public viewing until the end of September 2024.

Since Cheras LeisureMall’s opening in 1994, the neighbourhood mall has been dedicated to celebrating diverse cultures and bringing people together. This event perfectly reflects these values as the community unites to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This year, the mall had taken it to the next level by partnering with neighbouring schools in a joint effort to achieve a Malaysia Book of Records title for the ‘Most Hand-Painted Lanterns by Children’.

The management of Cheras LeisureMall expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the schools, teachers, parents and especially the children who have dedicated so much time and effort to making the event a success. The participants’ passion and creativity have truly brought the spirit of the Mid Autumn Festival to life.

Over 1,500 students from 14 primary schools took part in the Mid-Autumn Lantern Art Competition to design, sketch and paint the lanterns with illustrations of what Mid-Autumn means to them.
