Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that China will be providing an additional 1,000 scholarships to Malaysian post-technical and vocational education and training (TVET) students for training in China. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the students identified for the program will undergo training in various TVET-related fields under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for a period ranging from three months to one year.

He also mentioned that the Chinese government will fully finance the courses, accommodation, and other expenses for the selected students. The scholarship slots will be distributed among various TVET institutions in Malaysia. Ahmad Zahid made these remarks to reporters at the launch of the Place and Train Programme at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka in Durian Tunggal on Tuesday (Jan 16).

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will cover the cost of return air tickets for the TVET students traveling to China for the program. This financial support is being provided to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in the training program.

It is evident that China’s offer of 1,000 additional scholarships to Malaysian TVET students demonstrates the commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation in the area of vocational education and training. The initiative represents a significant opportunity for Malaysian students to gain valuable skills and knowledge in TVET fields through training in China.

Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China in the TVET sector will help enhance the skills and proficiency of Malaysian students, which will ultimately contribute to the development of the Malaysian workforce and economy. The scholarship program is expected to have a positive impact on the overall TVET landscape in Malaysia.
