LJUBLJANA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — The Music Academy of Ljubljana University hosted a concert of Chinese classical music performed by Nanjing University’s Traditional Instruments Orchestra on Monday.
More than 100 attendees, including the Chinese Ambassador to Slovenia Wang Shunqing, enjoyed the concert in the heart of Slovenia’s capital.
Under the direction of Professor Zhang Jingbo, the orchestra presented well-known compositions such as the theme song from the film Dream of the Red Chamber and All Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix.
Danijela Voljc, the Slovenian director of the Confucius Institute, emphasized that music transcends borders and language barriers.
Zhang Junfeng, Vice President of Nanjing University, highlighted the orchestra’s role as a cultural ambassador, effectively conveying the beauty of Chinese music and showcasing cultural diversity. He further stated that these performances foster mutual understanding and friendship.
The Confucius Institute in Ljubljana, established in 2010 to advance Chinese language and culture in Slovenia, organized the concert.
Formed in 1996, the orchestra comprises undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students from various departments of Nanjing University. They have performed almost a thousand times worldwide, with a particular focus on countries involved in the Belt and Road initiative. Slovenia joined this initiative in 2017.
