PETALING JAYA: Stakeholders in China’s halal industry are keen for Malaysia to be certification hub for halal products,” says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said the Chinese stakeholders wanted to penetrate the global halal market, including Asean and the Middle East.
“These were some of the input during a dialogue session chaired by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with the halal industry entrepreneurs from across China,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 10).
“At the request of the Deputy Prime Minister, I had the opportunity to answer questions of the potential global market and the business opportunities that can be explored jointly by Malaysian and Chinese SMEs.
Dr Wee said according to information from stakeholders in the halal industry in China, the trade value of halal products in China has now reached US$140.7bil (RM612.24bil) and is expected to increase significantly in the near future.
Ahmad Zahid is on a five-day official visit to China from Sept 8 to 12.
