In Rome on Feb. 27, a Chinese herbal tea maker is looking to broaden its reach in the global market by introducing its brand name “WALOVI” in Milan and planning to establish a museum showcasing its products in Italy soon.
Guangzhou Wanglaoji Health Industry Co., Ltd., headquartered in Guangdong Province in southern China, stated that this initiative is geared towards expanding into the international market and promoting Chinese tea culture.
Li Chuyuan, the chairman of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Ltd., the owner of the 196-year-old brand, expressed, “We are confident and committed to making Wanglaoji a symbol of Chinese culture recognized worldwide.”
Li mentioned that Milan has been chosen as the initial location for the international launch of WALOVI to target a younger, trendier demographic of consumers and lead the way in promoting healthy consumption.
The herbal tea brand, popularly referred to as “cold tea” among Chinese buyers, has been distributed to over 150 countries and regions globally through various major retail platforms like Amazon and Costco, according to Li.
The company has also inked an agreement with Italian partners to establish its first tea-themed museum in Europe. While no specific details have been disclosed regarding the museum’s location or investment plan, it will be one of the company’s 56 herbal tea museums worldwide, including one in New York.
Li remarked, “The Wanglaoji museum will serve as a platform for cultural exchanges between the East and the West, infusing new energy into the interaction and mutual comprehension between Chinese and European civilizations.”
