CAIRO, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) — The China Cultural Center in Cairo hosted an event on Friday to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival. The event included a symposium and a musical performance focusing on the integration of Chinese pentatonic music with contemporary creativity and modern technologies.
Renowned Chinese violist Niu Ruixin explained the significance of Chinese pentatonic music throughout history, emphasizing its importance in the lives of Chinese people from ancient times to the present. She aimed to showcase the potential of using these ancient musical skills and modes to create contemporary and beautiful compositions.
Niu also highlighted the fascinating connection between ancient music and modern technology, demonstrating the possibilities of combining the two. She spoke about her appreciation for the audience’s interaction during her performance, stating that she felt the constant communication from them while playing.
“Music is a universal language without borders. I think people can communicate without any problems,” she shared with Xinhua.
Nahla Rammah, an Egyptian housewife and music enthusiast, agreed with Niu’s sentiment, expressing that communication through music is driven by feeling.
Shao Bin, deputy director of the China Cultural Center in Cairo, discussed the significance of Chinese pentatonic music not only as a part of the Chinese musical tradition, but also as an important aspect of world music and art.
“We aim to promote the understanding of China’s contributions to world music, art, and culture. Additionally, we hope to facilitate the interaction and development of China’s music culture with that of the world,” he told Xinhua.
