The sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) just concluded in Shanghai, set a record high in tentative deals reached for one-year purchases of goods and services, totaling 78.41 billion U.S. dollars.
This represented a 6.7 percent increase from last year, according to Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau.
The event, which took place from Nov. 5 to 10, attracted representatives from 154 countries, regions, and international organizations. Over 3,400 enterprises from 128 countries and regions participated in the business exhibition, showcasing 442 new products, technologies, and services.
The amount of contracts signed and the enthusiasm of international exhibitors demonstrate that the CIIE is a strong driver for global economic growth.
The American Food and Agriculture Pavilion established at the sixth CIIE saw 505 million U.S. dollars’ worth of deals signed by exhibitors, making it a success for American companies.
Additionally, 250 Australian exhibitors participated in the CIIE, with Australian wine producer Cimicky Estate expressing optimism in the expo’s potential to enhance their cross-border trade.
This year’s CIIE welcomed nearly 40 percent more overseas-organized small and medium-sized companies, as well as more than 10 countries attending for the first time, providing opportunities for growth and exposure to less-developed countries.
The exhibition also facilitated valuable exchanges between domestic companies and potential business partners, enhancing their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
Despite a sluggish global trade environment, China’s imports and exports have remained stable, with a growing accumulation of positive factors, according to official data.
China has set ambitious targets for its total trade in goods and services, creating enormous opportunities for the global market.
Registration for the seventh CIIE has already begun, with nearly 200 enterprises signing up to participate next year.
Medtronic, an international medical technology company, has secured nearly 40 orders at this year’s CIIE and has already signed up for the next year’s exhibition in Shanghai.
