According to reports, a company director has been detained on suspicion of paying a RM13,000 bribe to an engineer in exchange for contracts with a department in Penang.
The suspect, who is reportedly in his 50s, was apprehended by officials from the Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at 3am on Friday (Feb 16) for further questioning.
At the request of the MACC, Magistrate Shyahirah Abdul Salim agreed to detain the suspect for five days until Feb 20 to facilitate investigations.
Additionally, the engineer accused of accepting bribes from a contractor in 2022 has also been remanded and is currently in his 30s.
Sources claim that the engineer used the money to purchase a snooker table and a ping pong table, which were placed in his office.
Magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri granted the order to detain the engineer for five days starting Friday.
Penang MACC director Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah has confirmed the arrests.
