Last September, a company director was scammed out of RM11,130,123 in a cryptocurrency investment scheme called ‘CCERX’ that was advertised on Facebook. The loss was reported to be the largest case of crypto-investment fraud, as stated by Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) deputy director (Investigation) Deputy Comm Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa. The 60-year-old man made a police report on Jan 30 at a police station in Sentul. This led to an investigation being launched under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said on Monday (Feb 5).
DCP Rohaimi stated that since last November, the police have received 124 reports from victims of investment fraud nationwide, totaling a loss of RM90,364,463.08. Furthermore, the police have identified 73 companies, 83 bank accounts belonging to companies and businesses, and one individual bank account involved in this fraudulent activity.
For those who are still involved in the ‘CCERX’ investment scheme, DCP Rohaimi advised them to cease immediately and file a police report. He also urged people who are interested in cryptocurrency investments to verify the legitimacy of the service before proceeding. – Bernama
