A group of individuals known as “concerned Malaysians,” which includes academicians, activists, and former politicians, have publicly stated that they accept the apology issued by KK Super Mart regarding the recent socks controversy.
In a collective statement, the group expressed their support for the ongoing investigation by the authorities and stated that they are patiently awaiting the final outcome and any subsequent punishment that may be imposed.
Furthermore, they vehemently opposed Umno’s decision to endorse a boycott of the convenience store chain and emphasized that their members come from diverse backgrounds, including Sarawak and Sabah, representing different ethnic groups and religions.

This statement came in response to Umno’s public support for its youth chief, Dr. Akmal Salleh, who had called for a nationwide boycott of all KK Super Mart outlets following the discovery of socks featuring the term Allah in one of its stores last week.
Despite KK Super Mart taking swift action by recalling the socks, issuing a public apology for the oversight, and terminating its partnership with the sock supplier, Akmal continued to advocate for the boycott of the retail chain.
Notable signatories of the group’s statement include academics such as Prof Dr. Mohd Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi, Dr. Lim Teck Ghee, and Dr. James Chin, former Sungai Benut MP Tawfik Tun Dr Ismail, writers Dr. KJ John and E. S. Shankar, as well as lawyer Siti Kassim.
