GUA MUSANG: The construction of seven steel bridges in Pos Gob began on July 22 last year and is expected to be fully completed by the end of August, according to the Public Works Department (JKR).
The construction project, which also includes the building of two culverts and road upgrading work, is currently 75% complete, as reported by JKR. Three of the steel bridges at Sungai Teramok, Sungai Blaer, and Sungai Sengnang have already been finished, while the remaining four bridges at Sungai Bed, Sungai Taboh, Sungai Kawod, and Sungai Pelat are still under construction, JKR said in a statement on Sunday (July 9).
The construction of culverts in the tributaries of Sungai Teramok and Sungai Peningcong has been completed, as stated by JKR.
In the previous media reports, residents of the Orang Asli in Pos Gob expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in the construction of the steel bridges, which were supposed to replace their current wooden bridges used for daily transportation. The project was initially scheduled to be completed last February. Consequently, the residents have been forced to use makeshift log bridges to cross several streams in order to reach Gua Musang town, causing inconvenience and potential safety risks.
Despite the setback, JKR assured that the construction work is progressing and is slated for completion by the end of August.
