On Sunday, Angela Churie Kallhauge, the vice president of the U.S.-based Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), praised China’s Guangdong Province for its leadership in policy-making related to climate response and green transition at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.
She highlighted the province’s resolute, open-minded, innovative, and pragmatic approach in addressing climate change and transitioning to green development. She also emphasized the EDF’s years of collaboration with the province, including research, capacity building, international market exploration, and innovative practices.
Kallhauge specifically mentioned the province’s comprehensive, fair, transparent, and effective carbon trading mechanisms to support its carbon peaking and neutrality commitments.
Additionally, she praised enterprises in the province for actively undertaking green and low-carbon initiatives, resulting in a reduction in carbon emissions through technological innovation and enhanced management.
Looking ahead, Kallhauge expressed the EDF’s eagerness to deepen its cooperation with Guangdong to develop more innovative solutions to climate change and contribute to global climate governance.
The COP28 China Pavilion hosted a side event titled “Guangdong’s Solution to Climate Change,” where representatives from government sectors, enterprises, international organizations, and research institutions were invited to learn about the province’s innovative concepts and practices of climate response since 2010.
