PASIR MAS: In light of the rising water levels at Sungai Golok, police have urged residents in the area to remain cautious and consider relocating as a precautionary measure.

The Pasir Mas District Police chief, ACP Kama Azural Mohamed, revealed that as of 5pm, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang had surpassed the danger level, reaching 10.23 meters. Meanwhile, measurements at Bukit Kwong Dam in Pasir Mas recorded 17.23 meters, and Kuala Jambu in Tumpat recorded 2.24 meters.

“The Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters has organized seven teams to monitor five specific zones, which include Bandar Pasir Mas, Lubuk Setol, Repek, Jeram Perdah, and Rantau Panjang,” he said.

“These teams will assess flood-prone areas and advise residents to evacuate if necessary,” he added after inspecting the jetty in Pangkalan Gergaji, Rantau Panjang, on Sunday.

Elaborating further, Kama Azural advised individuals planning to travel to Thailand to park their vehicles in higher ground areas as a safety measure. The police have been informed of three cars submerged along Sungai Golok due to the sudden rise in water levels.

“We also urge the public to closely supervise children, particularly young ones, and refrain from playing in the water to avoid any incidents, such as drowning in strong currents,” he stated.

On another note, Kama Azural mentioned that only the Rantau Panjang Police Station had been affected by a 0.3-meter water level rise, but assured that the station is still functioning as usual.
