The police in Ipoh are currently analyzing CCTV footage in an effort to identify the individuals responsible for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a KK Mart outlet in Bidor, Tapah. Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusof Hassan Basri revealed that the incident took place on Tuesday at around 5:35am and that the police have already secured footage of the event.
During a press conference held after launching a commercial crime phone scam prevention program with Pos Malaysia, Comm Mohd Yusof Hassan Basri stated, “We will be going through the obtained footage meticulously to determine the culprits, how many were involved, and the type of vehicle used during the incident.”
According to the police chief, the actual shop was not damaged in the attack. He mentioned that the Molotov cocktail struck the five-foot walkway in front of the shop, leaving behind glass shards. Additionally, items resembling fireworks and what appeared to be gasoline were discovered on the ground.
Comm Mohd Yusof Hassan Basri revealed that a worker who was inside the shop at the time heard the sound of glass breaking, indicating that she might have narrowly escaped injury. The case is currently being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief, with possible penalties of up to two years in jail and/or a fine for the guilty parties.
The police chief urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting the Tapah police at 05-401 1861.
