Cops bust civil servant-led drug ring, seize RM2 million in drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug trafficking syndicate, masterminded by a civil servant, was busted following ten raids conducted in Johor Baru and the Klang Valley.

A total of 10 individuals, including a 38-year-old civil servant, believed to be the leader and mastermind of the syndicate, were detained on Sept 5 and 6.

The raids were conducted in Cheras, Kajang and Johor Baru.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said four individuals – two local men, a Thai man and a Thai woman – were detained in Taman Bukit Cheras, a local woman in Bandar Tun Razak and the civil servant in Kajang.

“The civil servant was detained after we raided a government quarters in Kajang while in Johor Baru, three men and a woman were detained.

“Those detained were aged between 27 and 52 years old,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 8)

An array of drugs worth about RM2mil were seized during the raids, he said.

“Among the drugs seized were 55kg of syabu, 1.3kg of heroin and 233g of ganja.

“The drugs seized could have been supplied to 30,000 addicts,” he said.

Comm Khaw said police also seized two cars, jewellery as well as RM68,046 cash.

“The syndicate would receive big supplies of drugs before distributing it in small amounts in the country and overseas.

“We believe they have been active since early this year,” he said.

Four of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine while seven of them had prior criminal records, he said.

“We are working towards nabbing the remnants of the syndicate.

“We need public cooperation to battle the drug menace, and we urge those with information to contact the NCID hotline at 012- 208 7222,” he said.
