KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded the statements of 11 individuals in connection with a protest here on Saturday (June 29).
Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the 11 were called up for investigation under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“We recorded the statements of 11 witnesses at the Putrajaya district police headquarters from 2pm till 4pm on Monday (July 1),” he said.
He said police would record the statement of Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, on Wednesday (July 3).
“We have not been able to set up an appointment with Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to record his statement.
On Saturday, a crowd of protesters dressed in black turned up for the anti-government rally near the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Protestors donning T-shirts printed with anti-government slogans chanted slogans and called for reforms.
Members of the rally’s organising committee took turns to give speeches lambasting government leaders on various issues such as the recent diesel price hike, possible removal of petrol subsidies, the proposed privatisation of government healthcare services and the shortage of local rice.
KL police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa previously said that the rally was illegal and that the organisers had not obtained permission from Putrajaya Corporation, the venue owner, when submitting the notice to police for the rally on June 14.
