PETALING JAYA: A five-year-old Filipino girl who was made to pose as a beggar has been rescued by the police.

Sinar Harian reported that the rescue took place during an Ops Pintas operation conducted by Unit D3 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) division within the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Unit D3) principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the girl was found in a raid on a house in Klang at about 11pm on Monday (Oct 21).

“During the raid, we arrested a 67-year-old Indonesian man with permanent resident status.

“Following that, the D3 Division raided another house in Sungai Kapar Indah, Klang at 12.30am on Tuesday (Oct 22) and arrested a 50-year-old local woman,” he said.

He added that both suspects are being investigated under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

The investigation revealed that the three-storey shophouse where the first raid occurred was rented by the Indonesian man.

“During the raid, the victim was found in a room believed to be guarded by the suspect.

“She is believed to have been made to work as a beggar around Klang for over a month. The local woman is suspected of being involved in arranging for the victim to be handed over to the Indonesian man for exploitation,” he added.
