Police in Mersing conducted an operation on New Year’s Eve along Jalan Jemaluang and screened over 800 vehicles, issuing 36 summonses for various offenses, according to Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani.

The operation, known as Ops Ambang Tahun Baru, took place from 8pm on Sunday (Dec 31) until 4am on Monday (Jan 1).

“A total of 630 individuals and 830 vehicles were screened during the operation,” Supt Abdul Razak said in a statement on Monday.

“We issued a total of 36 summonses to 36 individuals for various offences,” he added, also noting that a motorcycle was confiscated under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for illegal modifications.

The purpose of the operation, according to Supt Abdul Razak, was to ensure the public was aware of law enforcement’s presence and to prevent criminal activities in the district.

Additionally, the operations aimed to create awareness of the police presence and to deter criminal activity in the area,” he said.
