KUALA LUMPUR: Police are currently searching for a witness to aid their investigations into an alleged gang rape that occurred in Wangsa Maju. The victim, a local woman, came forward on August 30th and reported that she had been raped by a group of five men at a residence in Wangsa Maju. Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah from the Wangsa Maju OCPD stated that “All suspects have fled and efforts are underway to locate them. The victim has been referred for treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” according to a statement he made.
Wangsa Maju police have identified Muhammad Nuraffiq Ja’afar, aged 29, from Laksamana Cochrane 2 PPR, as a potential witness and are appealing for any information about his whereabouts to come forward. Those with any information should contact the investigating officer, Inspector Siti Fadzilah Ahmad Fisal at 017-6240252 or their nearest police station.
Assistant Commissioner Siti Kamsiah Hassan, the Assistant Director of Bukit Aman Sexual, Women, and Child Investigations Division (D11), confirmed the rape case when contacted on Thursday (August 31st). She added that the case is currently under investigation.
According to Berita Harian, the 27-year-old victim was raped on Wednesday (August 30th) in a house located in Wangsa Maju. It is believed that one of the five suspects being sought is the victim’s brother-in-law.
