KAJANG: The police are expected to identify the suspects behind the recent RM3.2mil goldsmith heist soon.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said while there were no arrests yet, police are expected to identify the four culprits in a matter of time.
“We are still investigating the case.
“However, we expect to identify the suspects soon,” he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of the Kajang OCPD post between Senior Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan and Asst Comm Nazron Abd Yusof at the Kajang district police headquarters on Wednesday (June 26).
When asked whether the same group committed past goldsmith heists in Kajang and South Klang, Comm Hussein said a different group committed past cases.
It was reported that a goldsmith at a shopping centre in Kajang had suffered losses of around RM3.2mil after being hit by armed robbers.
Seven people, including shop employees, have been questioned in the investigation so far.
Four masked men dressed as security guards and wearing gloves entered the shop at 3.17pm on June 17.
They smashed glass display cases using a hammer to steal the jewellery. They are also believed to have been carrying two pistols and a shotgun.
The suspects were also said to have fired a warning shot at a wall inside the shop before fleeing through the basement parking area.
Meanwhile, in another case, Comm Hussein said two Selangor football supporters who were detained for throwing rocks at a bus ferrying Perak supporters on June 23, have been remanded.
“There was no motive behind the act, but I believe these two men were being mischievous.
“However, we are still investigating the case under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief,” he said.
While the incident did not injure anyone, Comm Hussein reminded all football supporters to support their respective teams accordingly.
“Do not go overboard and jeopardise public order and safety.
“Support the beautiful game in a harmonious manner,” he said.
