A married couple, Seow Pei Chee of Subang Jaya and her husband Cheung Chia Ming of Kuala Lumpur, both 41, has been sentenced to death by the High Court in Sibu on Monday (July 31) for the murder of a woman three years ago. Justice Datuk Christopher Chin Soo Yin stated that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case against the accused and that there was common intention in committing the crime due to financial reasons. The victim, who was unable to earn enough money for the couple, was subjected to years of torture, fear, and physical abuse along with her teenage daughter.

According to Justice Chin, the accused relied on the victim’s earnings as a prostitute and became violent when she couldn’t earn enough money. He also revealed that the couple was willing to exploit the daughter for their own financial gain as moneylenders. Considering the nature of the case, Justice Chin had no choice but to impose the death sentence on the accused in accordance with the amended Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The victim, Heng Heow Lin, 38, lost her life due to severe head and bodily injuries inflicted by both Seow and Cheung. The couple was jointly charged with killing her between 10pm on Oct 4 and 6am on Oct 6, 2020, at a house in Jalan Tong Sang, and later disposing of the body in Jalan Aman. The victim’s body, which was found stuffed in a suitcase, was discovered by a passerby around 6.30am on Oct 6, 2020.
