(Reuters) – Spinner Glenn Phillips claimed five wickets for 45 runs as New Zealand bowled out Australia for 164 runs in their second innings before the tea break on the third day of the first test match in Wellington on Saturday. This left the hosts with a challenging target of 369 runs for victory.
New Zealand’s previous highest successful fourth-innings run chase was when they scored 324 runs against Pakistan in Christchurch back in 1994. Additionally, their highest run chase at Basin Reserve in Wellington was when they scored 285 runs to defeat Sri Lanka last year.
