(Reuters) – Australia wrapped up a clean sweep of the three-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand on Sunday. The win came in a rain-affected match at Eden Park, with Matthew Wade’s side emerging victorious by 27 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis method. The Australians had already secured the series by winning the first two matches in Wellington and Auckland.

In a match interrupted by rain, Australia managed to score 118 runs for the loss of four wickets in 10.4 overs. Travis Head was the top scorer for the Australian team, contributing 33 runs from 30 balls before being caught by Ish Sodhi off Mitchell Santner’s delivery. This set New Zealand a target of 126 runs to chase in 10 overs.

New Zealand’s chase got off to a shaky start as opener Will Young was dismissed in the second over. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen also fell quickly, putting the hosts in a difficult position. Despite Glenn Phillips’ valiant effort of scoring an unbeaten 40 from 24 balls, it wasn’t enough to secure a win for New Zealand.

This bilateral series served as the final international series for both teams before the commencement of the Indian Premier League next month. It also acts as preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States, scheduled for June. Both teams will be looking to fine-tune their strategies and players before these major tournaments.

Overall, Australia’s clean sweep against New Zealand in the T20 series highlights their strong form and depth in their squad. They will be pleased with their performance heading into the upcoming competitions. On the other hand, New Zealand will need to regroup and address their weaknesses before they face other strong opponents in future matches.

The rain interruptions during the match added an element of unpredictability, but both teams managed to adapt and make the most of the situation. It was a test of resilience and skill for the players, who had to deal with multiple disruptions to their game plan.

Individual performances from players like Travis Head and Glenn Phillips stood out during the match, showcasing their talent and capabilities on the international stage. These players will be key assets for their respective teams in future matches and tournaments.

In conclusion, Australia’s dominance in the T20 series against New Zealand cements their status as a formidable force in the format. As they look ahead to the Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup, the Australian team will be aiming to carry this winning momentum forward and achieve further success on the world stage.
