India has a plethora of batting options to choose from as they prepare for the T20 World Cup in June, with Shivam Dube making a case for a spot in the middle order with his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dube, playing for the Chennai Super Kings, has amassed 148 runs in four matches, placing him in the top 10 batters this season. His strike rate of 160.86 is among the best in this group, with only two other players boasting better numbers.

With all-rounders like Hardik Pandya, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, and death-overs hitter Rinku Singh vying for spots in India’s middle order at the World Cup, Dube’s name is also being considered for the tournament in West Indies and the U.S.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Dube’s performance, stating that he would definitely select him if he were a selector. Pathan highlighted Dube’s ability to perform well against different types of bowlers, showcasing his all-round skills.

“We have seen him against quality wrist spinners, against finger spinners. When you have a batter like that, why won’t you take advantage of that?” Pathan said, reflecting on Dube’s versatility as a middle-order batsman.

The conditions in West Indies are expected to favor spinners, making Dube’s proven skills as a finisher valuable for the team. Although Dube may not be equally dominant against pace, Pathan believes he could be effective in the slow pitches in the Caribbean.

Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden also commended Dube’s consistency and power-hitting abilities, noting that players who excel in hitting boundaries can thrive in the Caribbean conditions.

“I think it’s an interesting call…and he’s not doing it this season, he has done it last year as well. He has done it for a very long period of time. Last year also, he was top class,” Hayden said, acknowledging Dube’s track record of success.

The T20 World Cup in June will be a crucial opportunity for India to showcase their strong batting lineup, with players like Dube adding depth and versatility to the team’s middle order. With competition for spots heating up, selectors will have a challenging task ahead in finalizing the squad for the tournament.

Overall, Dube’s consistent performances in the IPL have put him in a favorable position for selection in the T20 World Cup squad, and his skills as a finisher and power-hitter could prove to be assets for India in the tournament.
