In an update from England’s men’s cricket team, it has been revealed that fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be participating in test matches this year. However, the team’s managing director Rob Key shared that Archer is setting his sights on the T20 World Cup scheduled for June.
Archer has been out of action since May last year due to an elbow injury. He is currently back in his home country of Barbados, where he was born, to participate in club cricket matches as part of his recovery process.
Key mentioned that Archer could make his return to competitive cricket in the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan next month.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Key stated, “Jofra has been training with Sussex in India during the pre-season and has shown good form. He is now in the Caribbean playing club cricket, with the goal of preparing himself for the T20 World Cup.”
Key added, “We hope to see him in action against Pakistan, but we are being cautious with Jofra’s return to ensure his long-term fitness.”
Regarding Archer’s test cricket comeback, Key emphasized the importance of a gradual approach. “We want to reintroduce him slowly to avoid any setbacks and have him available for an extended period,” Key explained.
“The plan is for Jofra to focus on white-ball cricket this summer and continue into the winter season. We aim to have him ready for test matches next year, especially during the series against India and the Ashes later on,” Key revealed.
It appears that England is prioritizing Archer’s recovery and long-term fitness, as they look forward to having him back in top form for various cricket tournaments in the future. Fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to action in the upcoming T20 World Cup and beyond.
