(Reuters) – India made a change to their bowling attack for the second test against South Africa, replacing Mohammed Shami with fast bowler Avesh Khan. Shami was originally included in the squad but had to withdraw due to fitness issues.
Avesh Khan, who has not played a test match for India, has prior experience in Twenty20 internationals and one-day internationals, where he has taken 27 wickets in a total of 19 T20 matches and 8 ODI matches.
In addition to the change in personnel, India also faced penalties after their slow over rate in the first test against South Africa. They were fined 10% of their match fee and docked two ICC World Test Championship points for falling two overs short of the target.
“Chris Broad of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” cricket governing body ICC said.
The Indian test squad for the second test included Rohit Sharma as captain, along with other players such as Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah.
